Finally - FoxyTunes supports VLC
VLC is a very popular open source media player. We’ve been getting quite a lot of requests to support it in FoxyTunes, and today we’re releasing a new FoxyTunes version that supports VLC on Windows and Linux.
Before using FoxyTunes with VLC, you’ll need to set-up a few things - just follow the instructions you’ll see when first selecting VLC as a player in FoxyTunes.
So, check the latest FoxyTunes with VLC support and let us know what you think

Well VLC player is really a good player but I’m using Yamipod for my ipod, could theres any posibility to make foxytunes to work with this player
the player homepage is http://www.yamipod.com, it’s because I don’t use itunes
itunes is really heavy for my pc, so I need alternatives

Thanks for supporting another media player that Linux users can enjoy! I tried it out and it works great!
I like the fact that you added a configuration message for this player. It was also easy to find it later since a shortcut for the message was added to the bottom of the list of players.

Its about 2 weeks ago that i uninstalled foxytunes because i use VLC
on my windows installations.
I then wrote an e-mail to include VLC as supported player. Today i
visited foxytunes and to my great satisfaction, there is the update!

Thanks a lot for adding VLC support - I’ve quite a few times faced situations where VLC played files or DVDs where no other player could. Although I understand that the latest version supporting VLC is in beta phase, I observe that I can only control the music voulume of VLC through Firefox Foxytunes. I’m using XP. I’m looking forward to full-fledged VLC support. Thanks again!

this doesn’t support VLC, sure I can pick it on the list now, but none of the other functions work, well, volume control does, woohoo….I don’t understand these other posts and there happiness, I’m terribly disappointed…has anyone gotten this to work properly? wtf

igonre my previous comment, theres a step they left out on the configuration of the VLC player, not only do you check the box for remote control interface but you actually have to change the interface from “default” to remote, located to the right in the “drop down”….hope you figured this out Soham

thanks for your help. i tried out your suggestion i can now minimize nd restore the VLC player window but the play control buttons don’t work.
Also the button that displays the currently played track doesn’t show any information.

I must be crazy, but VLC doesn’t show up in the player list for me…?
Mac Intel, Mac OS X 10.4.10, Firefox 2.0.0.7, FoxyTunes 2.9.6…
I tried re-installing VLC, and tried re-installing foxytunes, but neither seemed to work.
Am I missing something obvious?

I have the same problem. VLC doesn’t show up and it even doesn’t show up when I click on the link on my desktop. There is a bug !!! I have a laptop with Windows XP, firefox 2.0.0.9 and foxtyunes 2.9.6.1 (in french).

I have been trying to get the Foxytunes plugin to work with my portable firefox (v 2.0.0.3) and portable VLC (v 0.8.6c). I updated foxytunes to v 2.9.6 and still can’t get it to work. I have followed the directions given and even tried the suggestions listed in this forum but the most i can get it to do is control volume. when i check the dos window it looks like it is trying to use a DVD function of VLC to open music. Either way it acts like the interface between foxytunes and vlc isn’t right. Help!?

I’m using Ubuntu (linux) gusty (latest version) and I can’t get it to show up in the list, even when I follow the instructions to setup the rc interface and have it open. Cross-platform bug?

I’m also using Ubuntu (linux) gusty (latest version). I’ve tried it hard to make the VLC work with FoxyTunes. Finally, I got it work in some ways.
At first, I found out that my network hadn’t associated the address 127.0.0.1 to localhost so the remote control didn’t work and I tried to change the host directly to 127.0.0.1 in both VLC and foxytunes. Then, I found out that the port 6669 is in use so I needed to change the port to 6679.
Then, I discovered when I ran the VLC directly from the Applications menu, there is no remote control connection. I tried to run the vlc in the command terminal and finally get it work with foxytunes for all playback controls.
Later, I revealed that the “Play File” icon in FoxyTunes can launch VLC. However, the default host and port are different from the “Configure VLC” settings. The default I found out is something like localhost:6679. I think it can be made better to follow the settings in “Configure VLC” so as to ensure the host and port are existing.

If you can’t get it to work for the first time, try reinstalling vlc and then it should work.

hello, i wanted to install international foxytune, but at the end of the install, the message: “foxytune will be not install because it hasn’t got secured updates”
has appeared!!!
what can i do to have it?
and could the author create secured updates? it will be great!
