Listen up – FoxyTunes now supports Rhapsody

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

A new FoxyTunes for Firefox is here and it supports the Rhapsody Online Web player!

If you’re not familiar with Rhapsody, you should really check it out – it has tons of great music, radio stations, playlists and much more (Rhapsody currently works only in the US).

The new FoxyTunes supports the Rhapsody Web Player – it’s a great way to listen to Rhapsody right in your browser. We’ll try to support the standalone Rhapsody jukebox software in the future.

Also new in this version:

  • Fetch album covers from your iTunes, if available
  • Allow choosing your preferred Amazon store for finding album covers
  • Allow disabling automatic fetching of album covers from Amazon
  • Additional minor tweaks and bug fixes

As always, you can get the latest FoxyTunes for Firefox here.

Enjoy! :)

IE Tunes? FoxIE Tunes? FoxyTunes for IE!

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Ever since the first version of FoxyTunes, music lovers have been asking us to support additional players, platforms and browsers.

We’ve been constantly extending FoxyTunes and now it’s time to announce the latest addition:

The first beta of FoxyTunes for Internet Explorer is here! :)

FoxyTunes in IE7

One of our main goals with FoxyTunes is to make it truly universal. Now, FoxyTunes supports Firefox, IE, Flock, Thunderbird and more than 30 media players on Windows, Linux and MacOS.

As with our popular Firefox extension, now you can play your tunes and Explore the Web of Music while surfing with IE.

FoxyTunes in IE6

Please keep in mind that this version of FoxyTunes is still in beta, so you might see some beta quirks – please let us know if you do. Also, not all of the features of the Firefox version are available – we’ll be adding those in future releases.

FoxyTunes with InfoBox

We would love to hear any and all of your feedback about this version – please send us your comments, suggestions, questions and bug reports using this form.

P.S. As always – stay tuned for new and cool stuff in upcoming FoxyTunes for Firefox versions! :)

Pandora support restored

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Good news!

With the latest version, 2.0.4, FoxyTunes support for Pandora is now restored.

I’d like to thank the Pandora guys, Tom Conrad and Neil Mix for helping get FoxyTunes support for Pandora back on track and helping to make sure that FoxyTunes is compatible with future Pandora versions.

Currently, FoxyTunes can launch Pandora and show what’s playing. Also, the ‘Show Player’ button will find Pandora among all your open tabs or windows and raise it with a click. “Hide Player” will take you back to the tab you were working in before hitting “Show Player”.

If you’re not familiar with Pandora – check it out, you’ll love it!

Recently, FoxyTunes skins have been updated to better match the new FoxyTunes 2.0 version. If you have a FoxyTunes skin installed, make sure you update to the latest skin version. Below, you can see the beautiful and hugely popular Finespun skin by Joshua Hamilton.

FoxyTunes InfoBox – 5 cool things you might have missed

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

We are starting a series of Blog posts about some of the less obvious new FoxyTunes 2.0 features.

This is the first post in the series.

InfoBox is a new widget in FoxyTunes 2.0 that shows song info, album art, recent history and more…

Here’s a list of 5 InfoBox features you might have missed:

  1. InfoBox “floating” mode
InfoBox appears when you move your mouse over the ‘note’ button and automatically disappears when you move the mouse away. But what if you want to prevent the InfoBox from disappearing, so you can always see the current album cover, perform a search or browse the recent track history? No worries – InfoBox has a “floating” mode. If you move the InfoBox or use one of its buttons, it will stay put and won’t automatically disappear.

    Floating Mode
  2. Recent track history
Let’s say you hear a nice song on the radio but you’re too busy to check it out. The InfoBox has a list of recently played tracks and you can always return to one of them, see its album cover or perform a search to find out more about the artist or the song.

    Recent History
  3. Track info panel
This allows you to see some extended information about the track currently displayed in the InfoBox. You can see the track location (URL or path), the time the song was played at, the media player that played the song and more…

    Track Info
  4. Album cover finder
You probably noticed that the InfoBox automatically finds and displays album covers. One nice feature you might have missed is that if the album name is missing, the InfoBox will try to find the album that contains the current song and display its cover. By the way, currently, FoxyTunes searches for the album on Amazon, and clicking on the album cover image will take you directly to the Amazon album page.

    Album Cover Finder
  5. Seek slider
When InfoBox displays the currently playing track, you’ll see the seek slider that indicates the playback position of the current track and allows seeking to a specific position within this track. This feature is currently available with many (but not all) media players.

    Seek Slider

We’d love to hear your thoughts about the new features.
