FoxyTunes Planet is Now Yahoo! Music

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

From the people who brought you FoxyTunes Planet, we introduce Yahoo! Music! Ok, so the Yahoo! Music artist pages have been around for a while, but we just recently retired their predecessor, FoxyTunes Planet. Now when you click the artist and song links in FoxyTunes, you’ll go to Yahoo! Music to discover more stuff about that artist.

You may have noticed that the Yahoo! Music artist pages bear a striking resemblance to FoxyTunes Planet. That’s because the great minds behind FoxyTunes Planet were the same ones who inspired and helped to build the pages on Yahoo! It didn’t make sense to maintain both sites, and now we can focus on making the Yahoo! Music pages even better! Change can be difficult, we know, so if there was a feature on Planet that Yahoo! music lacks, let us know. We can’t promise to add everything, but we will read what you have to say and use your feedback to help decide what we do next.

FoxyTunes Shows Some Love for Microsoft

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

We’re back with another FoxyTunes and TwittyTunes update.  With this latest release, we’ve added support for Microsoft’s Zune Software. The Zune Software lets you manage your catalog and discover new music in a way that feels more like a record store than a spreadsheet.  You can check it out by clicking here.

We’ve also updated TwittyTunes in this latest release to include support for Windows Live Messenger.  Now, you can let your friends see what you’re listening to, whether you’re using Yahoo! Messenger or Windows Live Messenger.

That’s it for now.  Tell us what else you’d like to see added to FoxyTunes or just drop us a note with your feedback.

New major FoxyTunes version – share tunes on Twitter, Last.fm, Facebook and more!

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

A little over two years ago we embarked on a project called TwittyTunes. This addition to FoxyTunes was an experiment in letting people share what they listen to by posting to Twitter. Over time we’ve received lots of great feedback about TwittyTunes and have seen healthy use in our community. Thank you!

Today we’re excited to announce that TwittyTunes is officially a default feature within FoxyTunes! In addition to Twitter we’ve add support for Facebook, Skype, Yahoo! Messenger, Last.fm, and Yahoo! Status. With these services we let you share on your own terms – you can manually send messages to your social networks as well as setting up automatic services like Last.fm scrobbling. Install the new FoxyTunes now and begin by clicking on the share button shown below:

TwittyTunes is the new 'share' button.

FoxyTunes is still the easiest way to share what you’re listening to. With one click you can let your friends on multiple social networks know what you’re listening to.

Share what you're listening to with FoxyTunes

You can also automatically update your Skype and Yahoo! Messenger statuses while scrobbling directly to Last.fm.

Configure automatic sharing in TwittyTunes

This is a big step in sharing music on the web. It connects you and your friends with your music in real-time across the web. You can discover what your friends are listening to no matter where they listen to it – then get more info about the music through FoxyTunes Planet and Y! Music. Share more and discover great music!

We will be working hard over the coming months to add more services to TwittyTunes and make your sharing experience even simpler and easier. As always, please let us know what you think of this new major version of FoxyTunes. Also, we would love to hear what services should be in our next release. We thrive on your comments.

If you like it, tell your friends!

FoxyTunes supports Spotify

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Spotify If you haven’t heard about Spotify, it’s a new music service gaining popularity in western Europe. Some reviewers have called it the latest and greatest thing to happen to the music industry. Here’s how they describe themselves (we couldn’t agree more):

“Spotify is a new way to enjoy music. Simply download and install, before you know it you’ll be singing along to the genre, artist or song of your choice. With Spotify you are never far away from the song you want.

There are no restrictions in terms of what you can listen to or when. Forget about the hassle of waiting for files to download and fill up your hard drive before you get round to organising them. Spotify is instant, fun and simple.”

We’ve been hard at work on FoxyTunes and we’re proud to announce that in this release you can control Spotify from FireFox on Windows. We will be working hard over the coming months to extend that reach to IE and Mac. In the meantime, please let us know what you think of the feature as well as dropping a note to our friends over at Spotify.

If it’s supported in your country, go get yourself a copy. We hope it crosses the pond sometime soon because it’s a great product and we’re quite addicted to it.

Find tickets with FoxyTunes

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Ticketmaster logoWe’re always looking for ways to improve your music experience through FoxyTunes. Some of you might have noticed a cool little feature we put into the latest release of FoxyTunes for FireFox. While you’re listening to your favorite music, you’ve been able to quickly search the web for videos, lyrics, and other info through FoxyTunes.

Now you’re able to search concert tickets through our good friends at Ticketmaster.

Simply click on the Search menu icon (on the left of the track title) and select ‘Tickets’. Like so:

Search menu showing how to find tickets from FoxyTunes

This will then take you to a search results page showing all the latest events that the artist has scheduled. Concerts are one of the best ways to experience your favorite music. Get out, hear a few this summer.

We’re currently working on internationalizing this feature, but wanted to get it out there and hear what you think.

Control your YouTube with FoxyTunes

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

The latest update for FoxyTunes adds YouTube to the growing list of supported web players. This addition lets you not only control a single video, but also lets you navigate playlists full of videos. Do all this from the convenience of your FoxyTunes toolbar while you are surfing in other tabs.

FoxyTunes with YouTube support

Install the latest version and try it out with this Country YouTube playlist. Currently this feature only supports videos on YouTube.com, but we’re looking at ways to support embedded videos as well.

We know that you love your music and that YouTube is becoming a great source for music videos. We hope you enjoy this feature as much as we do.

As always, check it out and let us know what you think!

p.s. We’ve heard your feedback on the new version and the requests for Songbird and are already hard at work on the next update. More news to come shortly. :)

Cordially invited to the beta release of FoxyTunes v3.5

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Hey everyone, today we’re very happy to announce the beta release of FoxyTunes for Firefox v3.5.

Get FoxyTunes for Firefox v3.5 Beta.

We added a ton of improvements to this next release – we’ve made the controls smarter, updated the default skin and improved the menus so that you can do what you want faster and easier. Even though monitors are getting bigger and cheaper we wanted to ensure that FoxyTunes remains compact and useful.

FoxyTunes

In total we made over 20 improvements, additions, and tweaks to this version of FoxyTunes (click here for a full list), here are just a few examples:

Better player switching

In order to make using multiple players more seamless we’ve added a quick switch menu that lets you jump to other players, pauses your previous player, and shows you which player you’re currently listening to. We’ve also combined the show/hide buttons into the quick switch button so that easy access is just a toggle away.

Player quick switch

Player support updates

We’ve added support for Firefox version 3.1, the latest version of VLC, and the latest version of the foobar2000 player. FoxyTunes is also being smart about the players we show in the “Select Player” menu by only showing ones you’ve installed. The full list of supported players is still accessible under the “more” menu.

Smart + Simple = Better

The big themes of this release are smarter and simpler. We’ve put a lot of hard work and thought into how to improve buttons, menus, how players are controlled, and how we can blend the power of FoxyTunes with a streamlined design.

We’re very excited about this release and wanted to share it with you a little early. Check it out here and let us know what you think!

Update: We’ve fixed a few things relating to Wordpress and Signatunes. Have a look and let us know what else you find. :)

New FoxyTunes version and Planet updates

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Today we’re releasing a few updates – a new version of FoxyTunes for Firefox and several enhancements to FoxyTunes Planet.

Following our mission to support any media players you might be using, the latest FoxyTunes for Firefox now supports AIMP2 and The KMPlayer media players. Stay tuned for more popular players being supported in the near future ;)

Yahoo! Music Videos

We are also launching several enhancements on the FoxyTunes Planet website – first, there’s a whole new Yahoo! Music Videos widget, so now you have a choice between YouTube and Yahoo! Music video catalogs. The Rhapsody widget has been enhanced to play the top artist tracks right there on the page using the FoxyPlayer. We also tweaked the page layout a bit, and while we had to disable the Yahoo! Image Search and Hype Machine widgets for now, we’re definitely planning to add tons of cool new stuff to the pages in the near future. Finally, you no longer need to create an account and login to persist your widget layout and settings – so if you want to tweak anything in the new layout, feel free to do it without logging in.

Hope you like the new Foxy stuff, let us know what you think! :)
