Control your YouTube with FoxyTunes

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

The latest update for FoxyTunes adds YouTube to the growing list of supported web players. This addition lets you not only control a single video, but also lets you navigate playlists full of videos. Do all this from the convenience of your FoxyTunes toolbar while you are surfing in other tabs.

FoxyTunes with YouTube support

Install the latest version and try it out with this Country YouTube playlist. Currently this feature only supports videos on YouTube.com, but we’re looking at ways to support embedded videos as well.

We know that you love your music and that YouTube is becoming a great source for music videos. We hope you enjoy this feature as much as we do.

As always, check it out and let us know what you think!

p.s. We’ve heard your feedback on the new version and the requests for Songbird and are already hard at work on the next update. More news to come shortly. :)

Cordially invited to the beta release of FoxyTunes v3.5

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Hey everyone, today we’re very happy to announce the beta release of FoxyTunes for Firefox v3.5.

Get FoxyTunes for Firefox v3.5 Beta.

We added a ton of improvements to this next release - we’ve made the controls smarter, updated the default skin and improved the menus so that you can do what you want faster and easier. Even though monitors are getting bigger and cheaper we wanted to ensure that FoxyTunes remains compact and useful.

FoxyTunes

In total we made over 20 improvements, additions, and tweaks to this version of FoxyTunes (click here for a full list), here are just a few examples:

Better player switching

In order to make using multiple players more seamless we’ve added a quick switch menu that lets you jump to other players, pauses your previous player, and shows you which player you’re currently listening to. We’ve also combined the show/hide buttons into the quick switch button so that easy access is just a toggle away.

Player quick switch

Player support updates

We’ve added support for Firefox version 3.1, the latest version of VLC, and the latest version of the foobar2000 player. FoxyTunes is also being smart about the players we show in the “Select Player” menu by only showing ones you’ve installed. The full list of supported players is still accessible under the “more” menu.

Smart + Simple = Better

The big themes of this release are smarter and simpler. We’ve put a lot of hard work and thought into how to improve buttons, menus, how players are controlled, and how we can blend the power of FoxyTunes with a streamlined design.

We’re very excited about this release and wanted to share it with you a little early. Check it out here and let us know what you think!

Update: We’ve fixed a few things relating to Wordpress and Signatunes. Have a look and let us know what else you find. :)

New FoxyTunes version and Planet updates

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Today we’re releasing a few updates - a new version of FoxyTunes for Firefox and several enhancements to FoxyTunes Planet.

Following our mission to support any media players you might be using, the latest FoxyTunes for Firefox now supports AIMP2 and The KMPlayer media players. Stay tuned for more popular players being supported in the near future ;)

Yahoo! Music Videos

We are also launching several enhancements on the FoxyTunes Planet website – first, there’s a whole new Yahoo! Music Videos widget, so now you have a choice between YouTube and Yahoo! Music video catalogs. The Rhapsody widget has been enhanced to play the top artist tracks right there on the page using the FoxyPlayer. We also tweaked the page layout a bit, and while we had to disable the Yahoo! Image Search and Hype Machine widgets for now, we’re definitely planning to add tons of cool new stuff to the pages in the near future. Finally, you no longer need to create an account and login to persist your widget layout and settings – so if you want to tweak anything in the new layout, feel free to do it without logging in.

Hope you like the new Foxy stuff, let us know what you think! :)

Listen up - FoxyTunes now supports Rhapsody

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

A new FoxyTunes for Firefox is here and it supports the Rhapsody Online Web player!

If you’re not familiar with Rhapsody, you should really check it out - it has tons of great music, radio stations, playlists and much more (Rhapsody currently works only in the US).

The new FoxyTunes supports the Rhapsody Web Player - it’s a great way to listen to Rhapsody right in your browser. We’ll try to support the standalone Rhapsody jukebox software in the future.

Also new in this version:

  • Fetch album covers from your iTunes, if available
  • Allow choosing your preferred Amazon store for finding album covers
  • Allow disabling automatic fetching of album covers from Amazon
  • Additional minor tweaks and bug fixes

As always, you can get the latest FoxyTunes for Firefox here.

Enjoy! :)

Pandora support restored

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Good news!

With the latest version, 2.0.4, FoxyTunes support for Pandora is now restored.

I’d like to thank the Pandora guys, Tom Conrad and Neil Mix for helping get FoxyTunes support for Pandora back on track and helping to make sure that FoxyTunes is compatible with future Pandora versions.

Currently, FoxyTunes can launch Pandora and show what’s playing. Also, the ‘Show Player’ button will find Pandora among all your open tabs or windows and raise it with a click. “Hide Player” will take you back to the tab you were working in before hitting “Show Player”.

If you’re not familiar with Pandora - check it out, you’ll love it!

Pandora on your Firefox status bar

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006

First, if you haven’t heard about Pandora yet, you should definitely give it a try. It’s a great way of discovering new music and I’m sure you’ll love it!

Lately we received many user requests to add Pandora support to FoxyTunes. While listening to Pandora, our users really missed the convenience of always knowing which track is playing. Also, many of them find themselves looking for the Pandora player among many open tabs or windows, when they want to skip a track or change a station.

Basically, our users wanted the same convenience that FoxyTunes provides with their other media players (Winamp, iTunes etc.).

So, we decided to support Pandora in FoxyTunes. Currently, FoxyTunes will allow you to:

  1. See what’s playing on your Pandora.
  2. Automatically launch the Pandora Web site and by that the embedded Pandora player, if it isn’t already open.
  3. Show the Pandora Web player. This is an interesting feature. If Pandora is running in its own window - this will show that window. If Pandora is running in a tab - “show player” will raise that tab. “Hide player” will return you to the tab you were working in before hitting “Show player”.
  4. Volume - you can control the volume and mute. This currently controls your system volume (on Windows, Mac and Linux).
  5. Multi platform - the controller works (at least partially) on all platforms.

In future versions, we’ll try to allow pausing and skipping tracks right from FoxyTunes, controlling Pandora’s volume instead of the global one and other useful features.

A related new feature - we call it “Quick Player Switching”. It allows you to see which player is selected and switch between the most used players. The icon of the current player is displayed in the FoxyTunes main menu, along with up to three last players used (if any).

I hope you find all this as useful as we do :)
Get the new FoxyTunes Preview version (1.3) with Pandora support here.

[edit] Looks like Pandora have changed the way the currently playing track is displayed, so FoxyTunes is no longer able to pick that up. We’ll try to get this fixed and keep you updated. Stay tuned :)
[update] We fixed this - our latest preview version (1.3.1) can again show what’s playing in your Pandora
