FoxyTunes Planet is Now Yahoo! Music

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

From the people who brought you FoxyTunes Planet, we introduce Yahoo! Music! Ok, so the Yahoo! Music artist pages have been around for a while, but we just recently retired their predecessor, FoxyTunes Planet. Now when you click the artist and song links in FoxyTunes, you’ll go to Yahoo! Music to discover more stuff about that artist.

You may have noticed that the Yahoo! Music artist pages bear a striking resemblance to FoxyTunes Planet. That’s because the great minds behind FoxyTunes Planet were the same ones who inspired and helped to build the pages on Yahoo! It didn’t make sense to maintain both sites, and now we can focus on making the Yahoo! Music pages even better! Change can be difficult, we know, so if there was a feature on Planet that Yahoo! music lacks, let us know. We can’t promise to add everything, but we will read what you have to say and use your feedback to help decide what we do next.

New FoxyTunes version and Planet updates

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Today we’re releasing a few updates – a new version of FoxyTunes for Firefox and several enhancements to FoxyTunes Planet.

Following our mission to support any media players you might be using, the latest FoxyTunes for Firefox now supports AIMP2 and The KMPlayer media players. Stay tuned for more popular players being supported in the near future ;)

Yahoo! Music Videos

We are also launching several enhancements on the FoxyTunes Planet website – first, there’s a whole new Yahoo! Music Videos widget, so now you have a choice between YouTube and Yahoo! Music video catalogs. The Rhapsody widget has been enhanced to play the top artist tracks right there on the page using the FoxyPlayer. We also tweaked the page layout a bit, and while we had to disable the Yahoo! Image Search and Hype Machine widgets for now, we’re definitely planning to add tons of cool new stuff to the pages in the near future. Finally, you no longer need to create an account and login to persist your widget layout and settings – so if you want to tweak anything in the new layout, feel free to do it without logging in.

Hope you like the new Foxy stuff, let us know what you think! :)

Search FoxyTunes Planet by track name

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

We’ve added a useful feature to FoxyTunes Planet – now you can search by track name, in addition to searching by artist or genre.

For example, click here to search for “All Along the Watchtower“.

As you can see, although the song was originally written by Bob Dylan, it has been since covered by many popular artists – Jimi Hendrix, U2, Grateful Dead and many others.

5 cool new features on FoxyTunes Planet

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

A new FoxyTunes Planet release is now public – it adds several nice features that will help you find more great songs by your favorite artists and share them with your friends.

The most important additions are ‘Track View’ and ‘Album and Track Explorer’. In Track View, widgets change dynamically to display content relevant to the currently selected track. Album and Track Explorer allows you to quickly navigate between the artist’s tracks.

You can see an example of the new FoxyTunes Planet features here.

FoxyTunes Planet Track View

Here’s a more detailed list of the new additions:

Track and Album Explorer
You can now explore each artist on FoxyTunes Planet by their albums or songs. You can sort albums or tracks by their name, popularity, release date etc.

Top albums, top tracks
The artist side bar now displays top albums and top tracks for each artist. Clicking on ‘more’ will open the corresponding album explorer or track explorer window

Track permalink
Up until now you could only share artists on FoxyTunes Planet by sending your friends a link to their page. Now, you can also link to any specific track – just look for a ‘permalink’ label or just copy the URL displayed in your browser address bar while being in Track View.

Twitter integration
In addition to being able to share artists on regular social bookmarking sites, the new release lets you share your music discoveries through Twitter as well

Share videos
Besides sharing artists, you can now share the videos you discover on FoxyTunes Planet through StubleUpon, FaceBook, Twitter and a ton of other services

We really hope you like the new additions, stay tuned for more Foxy stuff soon :)

Live Earth on FoxyTunes Planet

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Live Earth is a huge music event that is going to take place on Saturday July 7, 2007. It is a series of concerts happening all over the planet with the goal of raising worldwide awareness of the dangers of Global Warming.

More than 150 of the world’s most popular artists and bands are going to perform at Live Earth and 2 billion people are going to follow it on the Internet, TV, radio and mobile.

We are very excited about this upcoming event and its extremely important cause, so we decided to make our humble contribution and create a special page on FoxyTunes Planet dedicated to Live Earth. On this page you can learn more about the event and its artists – you can even watch many of their most popular videos.

So, check out the FoxyTunes Live Earth page and visit the LiveEarth.org site to learn what you can do to help battle the climate crisis and save our Planet.

FoxyTunes Planet launches

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Today, after running for a while in a private beta, we are finally opening the first beta of FoxyTunes Planet to the public!

First, we wanted to thank everyone for the amazing feedback you sent us during the private beta.

So, what’s FoxyTunes Planet and why would you want to use it?

FoxyTunes Planet is a Universal Personalized Music Aggregator. Is this obscure enough? Then, read on… :)

Everything’s in one place

Each page on FoxyTunes Planet aggregates music information and rich media from all around the Web and allows you to instantly access all the great things that are out there – be it artist radio stations, recommendation services, videos, photos, reviews and so on.

Music related content should be abundant – why limit yourself to only one or two music sites, when there is an entire Internet out there. FoxyTunes Planet brings the entire Web of Music to your fingertips!

You choose

FoxyTunes Planet is personalizable - you are free to decide what you see and how you see it. Each piece of content, such as videos on YouTube or radio stations on Last.fm is presented in a “widget” – a little panel that allows you to quickly browse through the content. You can add, remove, reorder and configure the widgets any way you like – to create your own unique view on the world of music. FoxyTunes Planet already has many cool widgets and the list will be growing soon.

Wherever you are – FoxyTunes Planet is only a click away

FoxyTunes lets you discover the world of music related to what you are listening to with one click – right in your browser. It supports a huge number of media players and music services – it doesn’t matter whether you are listening to music with iTunes, Pandora or Winamp – the tiny FoxyTunes browser add-on instantly connects you to the Planet – your universal music dashboard.

Universal music link

Did you ever recommend music to a friend? Do you send a link to artist’s video? A Wikipedia page? Maybe a link to artist’s official website? Or a link to artist’s page in your favorite music service?

The problem is that video sites often don’t have artist bios, music information sites sometimes don’t have videos and music service links only work if your friends are using the same music services as you are.

Because FoxyTunes Planet pages have everything – videos, bios, photos, music services and much more, a single link to FoxyTunes Planet artist page allows your friends to discover all there is to discover about an artist. And, because the Planet is personalized, your friends will see the artists you send them through their own favorite sites and services.

Enhance, don’t replace

Just as with our universal browser add-on, our goal is to support and promote great music products and services that our users enjoy.
FoxyTunes doesn’t replace your favorite services – it enhances them, brings them closer to you and allows using many of them together.

FoxyTunes Planet

This is just the beginning

Although we think that FoxyTunes Planet is already a cool place for music lovers, this is really just a preview of what’s to come.

Stay tuned for more Foxyness coming soon! :)

FoxyTunes Planet – private beta is here

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

FoxyTunes LogoAs you all know, FoxyTunes is a universal music browser add-on that supports more than 30 great media players and music services – iTunes, Winamp, Pandora, Rhapsody and Amarok are only a few examples and the list is always growing.

With FoxyTunes, you can have the same music experience no matter which music player you’re using. FoxyTunes gives you the freedom to use your favorite players from within your favorite browser and does all the integration work behinds the scenes.

We took the same principles of integration and universality to a completely new level by creating a new Web site – we’re calling it the “FoxyTunes Planet”.

FoxyTunes PlanetFoxyTunes Planet is a Universal Music Mashup. The Planet, along with the FoxyTunes browser add-on connects between your favorite media players and great music sites and services.

Today we are launching the Planet in an invitation-based private beta. It’s not public yet for two reasons – first, we want to make sure that the new site can handle the load of all the FoxyTunes users. Also, we want to get your feedback and make additional improvements before publicly launching the new site.

Currently, we are inviting a limited number of FoxyTunes users to the private beta. If you’d like to join the private beta and help us shape the next generation of FoxyTunes – sign up here.

Much more to come soon – stay tuned! :)
